Brenda Maymon's Paralympic Report, Sept. 11, 2008

by Brenda Maymon / September 11, 2008

We played Latvia yesterday and strolled right into the medal rounds with a great victory. Everyone was able to play yesterday and we dominated. We stayed to watch the Netherlands vs. Slovenia to see who we would match up against. It was a great match and definitely a nail-biter. The Netherlands took the title, though, and we will face them in the semifinals tomorrow morning.

We have played the Dutch many times and we know their team inside-out (don't confuse this with thinking it will be an easy match). We will have to work for this win. We played the Dutch in March 2007 in Chicago and won 4 out of the 5 days we played them. The last time we saw them was in Egypt and we faced a hard loss against them. We are looking for our revenge and its time they know who the better team is.

As for tonight, I am utilizing a tool that has been offered to us here at the village to Team USA -- a sports psychologist...I'm not crazy!...I have been having a difficult time with pressure and stress since arriving here in China. This is an internal issue and I am now seeking help for our match tomorrow. I hope they will be able to give me the tools to get my confidence back and be the player I know I am. I will write more after our WIN tomorrow!
