Coaching Education News Alerts

Hello, Coaches!

This is a new undertaking for the Coaching Education Department, and will feature breaking Coaching Education News Alerts about Programs, Courses, Webinars and other items of educational interest for coaches nationwide, both in the USAV Junior Club and the Scholastic Coaches' worlds.

Periodically we will have a guest blogger from our CAP Cadre of instructors with comments regarding upcoming or just completed CAP courses or events, or providing you with some coaching insights or tips.  We will also take suggestions from readers regarding topics you'd like us to address in this blog.

So to start us off, I'd like to give you a quick rundown of upcoming courses, followed by some new CAP Webinars we will be scheduling.

CAP Courses between now and the first of the New Year include:

1) IMPACT, CAP I & II in Colorado Springs on November 20-22.
This one is coming up quick, so if you haven't registered, do so right away....we MAY still have some on-the Olympic-Training-Center housing & meals left!  Plus- Colorado Springs area coaches (high, school, club, middle school & collegiate) receive a special discounted registration price!

2) CAP Level II or a VCAP+ Conditioning Clinic in Dallas, TX on December 5-6.
This one is a one-or-the-other registration....you cannot attend both events here as they run at the same time.  The VCAP + is a 6 hour clinic teaching coaches or strength & conditioning coaches how to condition volleyball athletes in a volleyball specific manner.

3) IMPACT, CAP I & II in Tempe, AZ on December 4-6.
Again, area coaches (this time all of Arizona) receive special discounted pricing......so get your registration in!

4) IMPACT, IMPACT Instructor Training, CAP I and II, Beach CAP I, VCAP and VCAP Instructor Training....all in Tampa, FL starting on December 15 through Sunday December 20th
Once again....any Florida resident coach is eligible to receive special discounted registration pricing!  This is a special combined event with the annual AVCA Coaches Convention and NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championships and always proves to be an exception week of total immersion in the world of volleyball....so come join the fun!

We are also actively seeking hosts for the 2010 CAP Course schedule.
If there hasn't been a CAP Course in your area of the country lately, invite us in!  You just need to provide the facilities and help publicize locally!  To get more info on hosting & what all is involved, click on the Education tab under the red Resources button, then click on  the blue link at the left called "Hosting a CAP Course"...you can also download some pdf'd info from that page.  Contact cap@usav.org with questions or to get on the schedule.

CAP Module Webinars to be Offered!
This is our newest project....bringing CAP Modules to life online in the online Webinar format.  We offered the pilot Webinar Module - Nutrition 101: Fueling for Volleyball Athletes - the last week of October to great reviews.  If you missed that one, we are trying to re-schedule another live version between now and the end of the year.  Long range plans include also developing the recorded version into an on-demand/on the internet delivery format.  Each CAP Module Webinar carries 1 CAP Module Credit - which can either be used towards the "additional approved module" requirement for a new CAP certification (if a course is attended within 12 months of taking the Webinar Module)....or towards re-certification (CAP I takes 4 Modules, CAP II takes 5 and CAP III takes 6 every 4 year "Quad" to stay current).

Coaches who have registered for the CAP Courses offered at the AVCA Convention in Tampa, FL this December, will have the opportunity to take the REQUIRED CAP I and II topics in the online Webinar format prior to arriving in Tampa.  This will free them up to attend ANY of the elective sessions offered during the Convention.  The required topics will still be offered one time only during the week, so if coaches don't get them done via Webinar, they will have to attend these topics on-site.  Coaches will be contacted in the next week or so if they have registered early, and can sign up for one of the required topic Webinars.

Vote on the new CAP Module Webinar Topics!
We are excited about new Webinars and are seeking your help in identifying which topics should be the next ones to be developed and presented in this live Webinar format.....so go to the USA Volleyball homepage, scroll down to the bottom and VOTE in our CAP Module Topics POLL!  The first set of topics have already been polled, with 525 coaches weighing in.

These were the results from Poll #1 on Website, so the top 4 are in the works right now.

2)    Practice Design: What, How & Why? - 101 votes
